Baby swimming
Babies and infants from 3 to 24 months of age have fun and get used to water.
The weightlessness of water makes it possible to expand the range of children’s movements. Movements that are usually almost impossible become a lot easier in the pleasantly warm water. Baby swimming does not only have a positive effect on the respiratory tract; it also prevents disease in the upper respiratory tract and the development of allergies.
Why baby swimming?
Having fun in water and the encouragement of movement are always top priority during baby swimming. Parents learn important and, in particular, safe ways to hold their baby. They can see how their baby takes advantage of the wide range of movements possible in water. The experience together and the intensive body contact cultivates the close relationship between parents and child.
Baby swimming makes it possible for babies to move from the spot, even when babies are still at the stage where this is not possible on land. The “three-dimensional” aspect of the water offers the baby a freedom of movement that is denied to every baby on land. This means that baby swimming has an important function in the development of all movements.
But it is not only motor function that is influenced; the anatomical and organic development of the baby is also positively affected. Due to the properties of water (wet, cold, buoyancy, resistance, etc.), sensory perception improves significantly, something that is often lacking in many children of kindergarten and school age.
What is instructed in the course?
The babies don’t really learn how to swim; rather, the exercises/movements in water are the most important aspect. Children first learn how to swim properly at kindergarten age. Many of the babies who participate in baby swimming learn how to swim more quickly than children of the same age who have not participated in any courses. Baby swimming takes away the fear of water and therefore helps children to feel more confident in water at a later stage.
